Two snorers

He has now corrupted our foster dog Reike.
The pair of them are fast asleep in the lounge room
while watching football.
And its not like its a boring game,
its close and exciting.

But here they snore,
surrounded by the three full clothes horses
that are getting the wet clothes dry
via the warmth of the wood heater.
If it's this contagious,
why is it that I have trouble sleeping?
It seems to be easy for everyone else.

I'm not tired

I'm not tired
I don't want to go to bed.
It's too early to go to sleep.

No I'm not talking about my four year old.
And yeah, he is managing to stay awake. NOT!!!

Warming up for badminton

I have been away for a few days and
I'm quite sure I missed many opportunities for photos.
But that's okay because I'm back and yes he is still sleeping.
This was earlier tonight,
a whole lot earlier.
My guess is he would say he was saving his energy for playing badminton,
but we all know this is just normal.

Happy Birthday to you!

I tried.....
I promise you I tried.....
But all the good photos were when he was asleep.
I guess I could have woken him up
by singing happy birthday.
But as I'm tone deaf and really really can't sing
I didnt want to terrify him to much
so I just left him quietly sleeping.

He did surface for a while and watched some television
but after a while it was back to his normal state.

Ah well
he is now officially 50
so I guess I better let the geriatric old fella get his beauty sleep.

Still recovering

He is still recovering from getting totally and utterly drunk on Saturday night.
Guess he needs to practise more often
or perhaps not drink until he is green and spending the next day hung over.

Apparently he has been sleeping on and off all evening.
Nothing like stimulating conversations to make a day worthwhile.

Post maggoted sleep

I'm surprised he lasted this long!
Last night he got maggoted celebrating his 50th,
he had a dinner with family and friends and
we left him at the pub with his mates and he "crawled in" several hours later.
Due to poor planning on his part he had to play in a badminton tournament today
and he was certainly feeling quite ill.
Because I'm the sympathetic sort I woke him up early and made him walk the dog
then let him walk to the stadium because there was no way he was driving a car.

Yes, that's right, I'm a bitch!

Friday Evening

It's the end of the week
and I think he has had a busy day.
He came home and went to the pub to put his footy tips on
and have a drink with his mates.
He walked the dog around the block and then he sat down
while I dished up tea.

Yep he was at it again
this watching of television with his eyes closed.
Just to make sure,
I looked more closely.
Yep, he is asleep.

Reading the mail

Tonight I found Andrew reading the mail
and watching television.

I'm not sure which of these two tasks was the final straw
but then again it is highly possible that both are irrelevant to the sleeping situation.
Now if I could just get him to stop farting,
what on earth did he eat while I wasn't here?
Maybe a bucket load of onions?
I'd light a match but I'm worried the resulting explosion would blow the roof off
and its very windy, wet and cold outside.

After Badminton

I'm beginning to think it's me.
I'm just not that interesting to talk with
or I try and talk about the wrong topics.
This was tonight,
after he had been and played badminton
(Yes I get that he plays full on and is worn out)
And 30 seconds after he sat down this started.
you can see the progression,
This is how he started, intently watching the bike race

then the head sagged

then the legs dropped

Then a position change because I'm not really sleeping
and I'll watch more of the bike race
(This was 20 minutes ago)

Why he falls asleep watching tv

I have noticed from the comments I have received on my blog
and on my face book page
that lots of us have someone we are in a relationship with
(usually male)
who falls asleep on a regular basis while watching television.
So I now know that is quite common for this to happen but as
several people have expressed concern that there might be an
underlying cause for this happening and that perhaps my husband
might have an undiagnosed medical condition that is causing this
I thought I might look into it a bit further.
So these are things that I have read about or been told about

Sleep disorders (sleep apnea)
Restless leg syndrome
Disruptions to your circadian rhythms
Shift Work
Thyroid issues
Heart disease

Now some of you would be aware that Andrew had a heart attack several years
ago and had a stent placed in his Left Anterior Descending artery.
He made a very quick and full recovery and regularly gets tests done
and a very thorough check up
that involves taking blood, attaching to machines etc and I can safely say
that none of the above things apply to him.

My theory is that for people who work physically hard in their job,
(and Andrew certainly does that)
when they finally get a chance to stop at the end of a day,
everything goes into a full relaxation mode
as a way of recharging the battery so they are ready to go again at any given moment.

And the photo below is to prove he can be awake at times.

Tour de France

Okay okay
I know some of you are thinking
a bike race isn't the most interesting thing to be watching
but he actually likes watching it
and has watched it each year.
This time he thought he would combine it with reading the paper
but as you can see even that didn't help him.

This is when he was still watching and reading

but he soon gave up on that pretence
And has been in this position for a while.

Sunday Night

it is still the same day as the previous post.
And yes he has had a shower,
which explains the change of clothes.
Back into one of his normal "sleeping outfits"

first he started off in this way

But insisted he wasn't tired
and was actually listening to the television
which resulted in a change of position

And after the snoring and the phone call,
he moved again

And this is how he remains.

Sunday Afternoon Relaxation

What to do on a Sunday Afternoon?
This is probably why we never do anything,
he is one very relaxed husband!
Maybe just a little bit to relaxed for my liking
but hey it's his life and his choice of what to do on his weekends.

Watching Wimbledon

It's been a long hard day today
Walked the foster dog
Played a round of golf
Spent a few hours at the pub
Came home and ate tea
Now watching the tennis with his eyes closed and
I just turned up the tv so I can hear over the snoring

Friday - Early Edition

It's obviously my stintulating conversation
that brings this on.
Next to me, on the couch at 17:35

Thursday Evening

19:11 tonight

Had to update this post.
He woke to eat tea,
Then fell asleep straight after with the plate balanced on his leg.
He has been this way for half an hour.

Friday Night - Straight after tea

So I ask if he is tired
and the answer is "NO!"

7:16 pm

And I ask if he wants to go to sleep early tonight
again the answer is "NO!"

7:38 pm

So how is it that this happens?
And when he stirs and I suggest he could go and sleep in his bed,
"It's to early to go to bed, I'll wake up in the middle of the night."
So I have to ask, is there a difference between the type of sleep you get on the couch
and the type of sleep you get in your bed?
Both seem to involve snoring, I guess I'm just confused.

The explanation is that
"I'm resting my eyelids while the adverts are on the tv"

I'm not sure if that explains the snoring,
or the dribbling that sometimes occurs.

It provides great amusement,
and sometimes irritation to our children.
They have been known to throw bits of paper
and other items at him to try and scare him and wake him up.
